Bridging Taiwan and Europe: The GIH Vision
Expanding into European markets presents unique opportunities and challenges for Asian startups, from navigating unfamiliar regulatory landscapes to establishing local business networks. Supported by the Small and Medium Enterprise and Startup Administration (SMESA) under Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and executed by National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), the Global Innovation Hub (GIH) was established in 2025 to serve as a bridge between Taiwanese startups and global innovation ecosystems.

On October 22, 2026, GIH hosted its Demo Day under the theme “Landing Together from Taiwan to Belgium”. As reported by BusinessNext (數位時代), the event gathered key officials and trade representatives, including SMESA Director-General Lee Kuan-Chih, NYCU Chief Innovation Officer Prof. Huang Jing-Yao, Director Matthieu Branders of the Belgian Office Taipei, and AWEX Trade Representative Zou Hong-Ping.
Real Business Impact: Over 14 Partnerships & $6.8M+ USD in Potential
Unlike single-visit study tours, the GIH Belgium program delivered end-to-end support—combining 1-on-1 pre-departure consulting from Belgian experts with immersive field visits across Brussels, Liège, Louvain-la-Neuve, and Charleroi [5]. Co-organized by the Institute for Information Industry (III), NYCU IAPS, Wallonia Export-Investment Agency (AWEX), and Belgian incubator IGNITY, the initiative helped startups connect directly with local enterprises, hospitals, and industrial clusters.

The results of the delegation speak for themselves:
- 14+ Business Collaborations: Ranging from Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), Proofs of Concept (PoCs), direct purchase orders, and joint ventures.
- $6.8M+ USD in Business Opportunities: Estimated commercial potential reported across the 10 participating startups.
- Macro Platform Impact: Across the broader GIH platform (as of August 2026), over 180 effective matchings and 40 deep business negotiations have yielded approximately $7.8M USD in total commercial value.
10 Innovators Leading the Charge
The 10 Taiwanese startups selected for the European immersion represented a diverse spectrum of technology sectors:
- Locus Connect Technologies (致點科技): Specializing in indoor positioning and sports technology applications.
- Avalanche Computing (奎景運算): Generative AI solutions for smart manufacturing and pharmaceuticals.
- Kiwi New Energy (奇異能源): Integrated green energy services.
- Advmeds (先進醫資): Telehealth and remote healthcare platforms.
- ST Medical Technology (聖得醫學科技): Smart hospital software services.
- BBOX (虻研生技): Circular economy and agritech solutions.
- Gladio (葛萊迪歐): Agricultural fumigation and pest control technology.

Cultural Insights & Long-Term Growth
articipating founders highlighted that beyond commercial matchmaking, the immersion provided firsthand experience with Wallonia’s welcoming, internationalized business environment. High English proficiency and open professional standards across Belgian enterprises significantly lowered cross-border communication barriers.

PAs GIH continues to build long-term linkages between Taiwan and global innovation hubs, these partnerships demonstrate how structured support and local trust-building lay the foundation for sustainable international growth.
